Age: Unknown. Appears to be in her late twenties/early thirties.

Background: As far back as human history can tell, there have always been "witches"- practicioners of forbidden magic who defied the laws of the Shinigami and wreaked havoc on human society. (Nearly) always female, the witches and the Shinigami have been arch-enemies from day 1, for although witches do not actively seek to destroy humanity, they basically just do whatever they want regardless of the consequences. Despite this, neither Shinigami nor Demona (the witch leader said to be his equal in power) desire(d) an all-out conflict, and so although they clash on occasion, the two groups have a wary sort of truce with each other that prevents either side from annihilating the other completely. When something or someone threatens this precarious balance, the two sides are reluctantly willing to work together to remove the problem.

One of these unpleasant little incidents occurred 800 years ago, when the "heretic" Spider Witch Arachne rebelled against Demona. Extremely charismatic, Arachne managed to lure many witches and humans to her side, eventually constructing an army capable of taking on both Demona and Shinigami at once. Things were looking great for Arachne... until she found out that someone very close to her had betrayed her, and was forced to flee on foot from Shinigami himself before splitting her soul amongst millions of spiders and scattering around the world.

That traitor was none other than Arachne's 100-year-old little sister, Medusa. A world ruled by her older sister was far from what Medusa wanted, and so she had tipped off Shinigami in order to upset Arachne's plans. Unfortunately, Arachne managed to escape complete destruction, much to Medusa's annoyance... but she kept that particular trick in mind, as it would likely come in handy one day.

Medusa had plans of her own.

Several hundred years later, one of the eight warriors under Shinigami's command- a man called Asura -went insane and became the first Kishin, a demon of near-unstoppable power. Shinigami was ultimately able to defeat his crazed former subordinate by ripping his skin off and using it to create a prison, which he promptly buried underneath a desert in the middle of what would eventually become Nevada. In order to ensure that Asura never escaped, Shinigami divided his soul into pieces around the desert, around which he built Death City. By binding himself atop the demon's prison, Shinigami ensured complete protection... unfortunately, this also meant that the God of Death was stuck living in the middle of nowhere, forever. Now stuck sitting around instead of being out hunting souls, Shinigami decided to rectify the problem by training students to go out and do it for him. And thus was the Shibusen Technical School For Weapon Meisters, or simply "Shibusen", born. Over time, most people forgot that Death City and Shibusen harbored a demon beneath them.

A few people didn't.

After decades of experimentation, Medusa and her assistant- a thoroughly unpleasant little man named Ragnarok who happened to be a sword-type Weapon-managed to create a substance that, by their calculations, would awaken Asura's bloodlust and free him from the prison of his own skin. There was only one thing the black substance needed to become black "blood": life force. Medusa promptly gave it some. Ragnarok's, to be exact. The man's essence was absorbed into the black blood, driving him insane in the process. Now all that was left was to find a human host to test it on.

Rather than find a new host and subject them to the physical agony of the black blood, Medusa simply decided to make one.

Thus was born "Chrona", Medusa's daughter(?) born of unknown seed. Medusa controlled the child's existence from day 1, dispassionately forcing her to commit horrible acts of murder and throwing her into a dark room for days if she refused. It didn't take long for Chrona's spirit to break, and Medusa was able to inject the black blood into her with little resistance- destroying what little sanity and self-will her daughter had left in the process. The experiment was a success: Ragnarok and Chrona bonded, and Medusa had created a near-invincible Weapon and Meister capable of taking on the students of Shibusen. More importantly, the successful fusion indicated that the black blood was everything Medusa had predicted, and it would serve its purpose in awakening Asura.

With Chrona created and the black blood ready to go, there was only one thing left to do in order to implement Operation: Destroy Everything Good Forever. Slipping into Shibusen one night, Medusa killed the school nurse, careful to use her snakes in order to disguise the death as an accident. Sure enough, applications for school nurse opened up shortly afterwards... and of course, who was first to respond to the application but sweet, polite Medusa-sensei. She got the job without even trying.

A couple of years later, the storyline finally began. Medusa made her series entrance in Italy, supervising Chrona from the skies as the girl slaughtered an Italian gang in a church. An unexpected intervention came in the form of Maka Albarn and Soul Eater Evans, who happened to be on patrol in Italy at the time. Medusa sicced Chrona on the duo, and during the battle Soul was heavily injured and infected with Chrona's black blood. He and Maka were rescued by the timely arrival of Death Scythe Spirit Albarn and Meister Franken Stein, who noticed Medusa's presence and attacked her. Summoning Chrona to her side, Medusa fled off into the night before her identity could be discovered.

She made it back to Shibusen just in time to change into her nurse uniform, and was on call when Soul was brought in. She and Stein managed to pull him through his near-death experience, and Medusa was delighted to find Soul infected. She took advantage of her position as nurse to get close to Soul, earning his trust and coercing him into describing his black blood-related nightmares of bursting through Maka's stomach. Medusa used the information to pit Soul and Maka against each other, hoping to antagonize them into giving into the black blood's madness.

Meanwhile, the witches were beginning to grow suspicious of Medusa. After dragging Chrona to a council meeting, Medusa was confronted by two of her comrades- Eruka Frog and the eldest Mizune sister, a frog and mouse witch respectively. The two witches expressed their contempt of Medusa and later attempted to ambush her at Shibusen, trusting that she would be unable to fight back without releasing her Soul Protect and triggering every alarm in the city. Medusa calmly used her snakes to kill Mizune, and threatened to do the same to Eruka. The terrified younger witch fled, and Medusa was able to retain her cover upon Maka and Stein's arrival.

Eruka thought herself safe, but Medusa popped up and cheerfully revealed that the snake in Eruka's body allowed her to track her anywhere on Earth. She essentially made Eruka her bitch, threatening to trigger the snake and murder the younger girl from the inside out if Eruka stepped out of line. The frog witch's first task: free the most heavily-guarded prisoner in Witch prison, an immortal werewolf who stole Madam Demona's eye. Eruka completed her task, and as thanks for Medusa's help, the newly-dubbed "Free" offered to work for her. Medusa sent Free to battle Maka and Soul in an attempt to test the black blood: although Free was forced to retreat, Maka was successfully infected, and Medusa's plans crept ever closer to completion. With the eve of Asura's awakening get closer and closer, Ragnarok needed as many souls as possible, and so Chrona was sent to steal the souls collected by the Ghost Ship Flying Dutchman.

Everything was going completely according to plan with one niggling exception... that rat bastard Franken Stein. Visiting her alone, the good doctor dropped vague hints that he was on to her. Having never encountered an opponent like Stein, Medusa was unnerved and caught off guard by his subtle jabs. No matter; even if Stein was on to her (which he was), there was nothing he could do about it (there wasn't).

Finally, the day had arrived: the 800th anniversary of Shibusen's founding. This was the night that Asura was to be revived: along with Eruka, Chrona, and Free, Medusa enlisted the aid of the remaining Mizune sisters, using them to spread havoc while her companions slipped underneath Shibusen and headed for Asura's prison. Medusa herself, as part of the Shibusen faculty, was forced to attend the celebration, where she unexpectedly found herself getting swept up in a dance with Stein. The two psychopaths' suspicions about each other came to a climax, as they each let it slip that they knew exactly what the other was. Stein took the offensive, shouting Medusa's true identity to the whole room- she was only barely able to escape in time, commanding Free to seal the entire room in another dimension. With Shinigami and all of Shibusen trapped for an hour, Medusa assumed herself safe- unfortunately, she underestimated the power of the supposedly-killed zombie teacher Sid Barret, who used the last vestiges of his strength to free Stein, Maka, Soul, and their friends from the trap.

With Free and Eruka racing towards Asura, Medusa left herself and Chrona to cover them. Assuming that none of the students would be able to get past her Vector Arrows, Medusa placed herself at the tunnel entrance: to her shock, she had underestimated the students, and all three were able to slip past her. This left Stein behind to face her: he was shortly joined by his partner Spirit Albarn, Maka's father, who expressed disgust and horror at the casual torture Medusa had inflicted upon Chrona.

While Medusa was kept busy, Maka sprinted ahead and confronted Chrona. Forced to use the power of the black blood to defeat the other girl, Maka was driven insane, just as Medusa predicted... however, she and Soul were not only able to overcome the power of the black blood, but managed to at least partially free Chrona from its grip as well. The witch had lost her secret weapon, though at the moment she was concerned with a more immediate danger.

Medusa faced off with the duo, displaying her true power for the first time in the series. Stein, the strongest Meister ever graduated from Shibusen, and Spirit, Shinigami's personal scythe, were barely able to hold their own against her: this was due in no small part to her creative use of Vector Plate to ensure a close-range battle. As the battle grew more and more intense, Medusa noticed Stein's madness growing- and with it, his power. Although she knew the mad scientist was growing more dangerous with every second, Medusa was delighted with the insanity blossoming from within him, and gleefully encouraged him to abandon his so-called "morals" and join her on her quest to destroy the world. For a moment, it seemed like he would...

...but alas, theirs was a romance that was not to be. Stein and Medusa locked themselves in a stalemate- Stein bound the interior of Medusa's body with Soul Stitching just as she launched a Vector Arrow at his neck, ensuring that neither could move. The two were trapped together, forced to watch and wait to see whose pawns would be successful.

As she felt the madness welling up all around her, Medusa knew that she had won.

Aaaand that's where I'll be pulling her in. Right before Stein chops off her arms and stabs her in the forehead.

Personality: Medusa-sensei is the nicest teacher at Shibusen! She's always polite and professional, and possesses a warm, cheerful aura that makes her easy to talk to and confide in. She's always ready with a bandage whenever a Shibusen student goes and hurts themselves in some careless accident, and can always be counted on to be there when you really need someone to talk to aboOH GOD WHY IS THERE AN ARROW IN MY THROAT AAAAAUGUGHIGBGHUKDG

No. Not even close. Medusa is Evil with a capital E, and also a capital V, I, L, and there's probably an exclamation mark in there somewhere. Regardless of her lies, false affection, and tempting nature, Medusa is concerned with only one person in the entire universe: herself. She lives only to fufill her own goals of global chaos, and any pain and suffering she inflicts along the way is just icing on the cake. (The cake she baked out of your parents' ashes after she killed them.)

There is no depth that Medusa will not sink to in order to get what she wants. We're talking about a woman who had a daughter solely to drive that daughter insane, transforming her own flesh and blood into a living doomsday device. There's nothing she enjoys more than turning other people into devices: she has proven herself to be a master strategist, and is currently manipulating/has manipulated at least half of the main cast into doing her bidding. She has zero empathy. None. Whether it's hijacking little girls' bodies, gruesomely killing fellow witches, or driving her enemies to the brink of sheer insanity, Medusa will never, ever feel any sort of guilt whatsoever. She is, quite frankly, psychopathic.

Her desire to spread chaos appears to stem from the connection she shares with Stein: they both see the world as an experiment, to be manipulated and molded as they see fit. The difference between them is that Stein sees other people as fellow participants in the experiment, whereas Medusa sees them as mere variables, to be removed from the equation if necessary. Her lack of human emotion is such that she can crush her own daughter's spirit and subject her to years of physical pain without a single moment of guilt or hesitation.

If she has a flaw, it's her tendency to gloat: the only reason Stein was able to kill her during the fight beneath Shibusen was because she dropped her guard for a fraction of a second in order to revel in her victory. She has underestimated Maka and the other Shibusen students on occasion, and certainly wasn't expecting Maka and Soul to overcome the black blood. Aside from these minor slip-ups, it is very rare for Medusa to make a mistake: her plans are usually calculated years before they happen and include at least several insurance routes.

She is an extremely powerful magic user, and judging from Eruka and Mizune's shocked reaction during their battle, her power precedes that of any witch in the series with the possible exceptions of her elder sister Arachne and Madam Demona. Her attack style centers around the magical black arrow-snakes she stores within her own body: these snakes can be split apart to preserve her soul in pieces, implanted into other people's bodies to rip them apart from within, and projected out of her back like tentacles. In addition to the snakes, her arithmetic-based "Vector" magic is capable of amplifying speed and power in both herself and her allies.

In summary: Medusa is a cold-hearted, extremely cunning, power-hungry madwoman as reptilian as the snakes she commands.
